Astrapia

I caught this woman’s eye at the Sing-sing of Mt Hagen and was struck by the rising wave of pride and warmth flooding her gaze. She looked directly into my lens, her face paint and headdress as vibrant and intricate as the heritage and traditions of her tribe. I could imagine how many hours she must have spent creating her beautiful ensemble with the help of her family members.
